Commerzbank Asset Management (CAM Asia) was established in Singapore in 1995 as center of competence for Asia-ex-Japan within the global asset management operations of the Commerzbank group. Commerzbank is headquartered in Germany. The asset management operations of the bank offer a global coverage of all major markets and time zones.

CAM Asia manages investment portfolios in the Asia-ex-Japan region and specializes in both equity and bond investments. Singapore is the hub for all asset management activities in Asia. For investments in non-Asian markets, CAM Asia draws on the global expertise of Commerzbank group, with major investment management centers in Frankfurt, London, Paris, San Francisco and Tokyo in addition to the Singapore operations.
 
CAM Asia currently has in excess of SGD 1 bln in assets under management in Singapore. Worldwide, Commerzbank group manages in excess of SGD 250 bln in investments for its clients.

In the middle of the year 2000, CAM Asia made its debut in the Singapore unit trust market with the launch of its family of Global Sector Index Funds. These funds were a new phenomenon in the Singapore market, as they combined the possibility of investing in 7 distinct global economic sectors (healthcare, telecommunications, infotechnology, financials, consumer stocks, transportation and energy & resources) with the indexing approach to investing. Indexing is a low cost alternative of investing, whereby the investment manager avoids taking excessive stock bets and attempts to keep the investment portfolio in line with the underlying benchmark. The result is a lower level of turnover in the portfolio, and thus a lower cost to the investor.
